The Jeep Renegade is offered with a choice between two different engines, each of which has a character all its own. A 2.4-liter inline-four-cylinder engine that produces 180 horsepower and 175 pound-feet of torque comes standard on the Sport and Latitude versions. On the Limited and Trailhawk models you can get a nine-speed automatic transmission. Towing capacity is 2,000 pounds.

The same 2.4-liter inline-four engine that is found in the Jeep Renegade powers all Jeep Compass models. Its output will be the same as that of the Renegade. Towing capacity for the Compass is rated at 2,000 pounds when properly equipped.

Tech and Safety Features in the Compass and Renegade Jeep models

Both models of Jeep now come standardly equipped with blind-spot recognition, which also includes a rear-cross traffic alert, as well as forward collision warning, which includes active braking. Trailhawk editions (top of the line) of both models feature an eight-way power-adjustable driver's seat, electric lumbar adjustment, heated steering wheel, windshield wiper deicer, and the 8.4-inch Uconnect 4 with navigations. Cargo space: The Renegade has a capacity of 18.5 cubic feet when all of the seats in the back are up. When folded forward, these seats make available a total of 50.8 cubic feet of additional capacity. In contrast, the Compass has a maximum cargo volume of 27.2 cubic feet. When you fold down the back seats, there will be a total of 59.8 cubic feet of room available.

No matter how you slice it, the Compass outperforms the Renegade when it comes to the ability to transport people or cargo.
